Equipment
For extended trips, I’m currently using Olympus E-510 with two zoom lenses: ZD 14-54mm f/2.8-3.5 and ZD 40-150 mm f/3.5-4.5. It’s fairly light and compact travel setup, ideal for my type of adventures: backpacking, trekking, cyclo-touring or climbing. Plus, I like optical quality of the Olympus entry level glass. They stand above anything similar offered by Nikon, Canon or Pentax.
In addition, for fast ultra-light touring and/or multi-day racing (see Tour Divide), I have acquired a new digicam: Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 (a.k.a. TZ7 outside the U.S. and Canada). It takes amazing photos (up to ISO400) for its size. Surprisingly though, as a first digicam of its kind, it includes HD quality (1280×720, or 720p) movie recording in AVCHD format, with stereo sound, too. The short movie clips coming out of this little wonder are really stunning!!! The battery life is about half of my previous Fujifilm FinePix F31fd digicam, so I need to carry an extra battery (light and small). Plus, it’s useful as a “carry-me-everywhere” snap-shooting camera…
